The Project Scope Phase focuses on integrating Insurance Overlays into your business, aiming to maximize impact while minimizing costs. You will be required to provide detailed information about your managed account process, APIs, approach, and billing procedures.
Demo and overview of current managed account process
- Where and how are new accounts created?
- How do advisors review existing accounts?
- How do advisors raise cash from accounts?
Documentation of available managed account APIs or custodian partner(s)
- Need to understand how to look up information for a given managed account: current holdings, amounts, owner(s) and related owner information, account type, state, etc…
- Is there a daily file feed of managed account holding that we can receive (we would only need it for accounts tied to overlays)?
Documentation and discussion of current managed account approach
- How are managed accounts constructed? What options are available to advisors? How much investment control and freedom do they have?
- Are there prepackaged models that we can start with?
- Will the home office need to approve which models can be wrapped?
Documentation and discussion of current billing procedures
- How are fees calculated? How are they debited and distributed? How does the client see and acknowledge the fees? What is your billing schedule and calculation type?
- How do would you expect the Insurance Overlay to change the advisory fee, if at all?
- Can we review a sample of the billing files and process that you use?
Compliance
- Where and how does the compliance team do their review?
- Are you okay with the managed account team reviewing, or do you need the annuity team to review?
- What forms and data will they look at? Is any supplemental information needed?
- How many operational stops are needed? Are they sequential?
- Does the client and advisor sign before or after suitability review?
- Are you amenable to using the IO review queue functionality?
Technology Vision
- In general, do you prefer to create and control the advisor experience through integrations, or do you prefer a “launch pad” approach where advisors can access different tools that do different things?
- Is there a vendor management review process that we would need to go through? How does that get started?
Team
- Who are the technology SMEs we can work with to outline how the experience would work for your advisors?
